First Bites
About

Track your baby's first foods, the whole-foods way.

First Bites is a free, private tracker for baby-led weaning and starting solids β€” with a food board, exposure counts, and rolling windows for the top-9 allergens so early introduction actually sticks.

The approach

First Bites follows the modern, evidence-based approach to complementary feeding: whole foods (not rice-cereal-first) and early, sustained introduction of the common allergens, in line with the AAP's 2019 guidance and the landmark LEAP and EAT studies. Instead of delaying peanut, egg, and the rest, you introduce them around 6 months alongside other first foods β€” and keep offering them so tolerance holds.

What you can track

Feeding twins or sharing with family? First Bites supports two babies and lets a spouse, grandparent or nanny join your family and log for the same babies β€” changes sync across everyone's phones.

Private by default

Everything works on your device with no account β€” your baby's data lives in your browser's local storage. Sign in only if you want it to sync across devices and family. Analytics are cookieless and carry no personal data.

Frequently asked questions

When should we start solids?

Most babies are ready around 6 months, once they can sit with support, have good head control, reach for food, and have lost the tongue-thrust reflex β€” and never before 4 months. Talk to your pediatrician about your own baby, especially if there's severe eczema or a known food allergy.

What is baby-led weaning?

Offering soft, appropriately-sized whole foods your baby self-feeds, rather than only spoon-fed purΓ©es. First Bites works for purΓ©es, BLW, or a mix β€” it's about what and how often, not one method.

Which allergens does it track, and why early?

The nine major allergens: milk, egg, peanut, tree nut, soy, wheat, fish, shellfish and sesame. Introducing them early and keeping them in the diet is associated with lower rates of food allergy β€” see our allergen guide.

Is it really free?

Yes β€” the tracker is free to use. No ads, no selling data.

Is my data private?

By default your data never leaves your device. If you create an optional account to sync, it's stored on our own server just for you and the family members you invite.

Can grandparents or a partner log too?

Yes. Create an account, share your family invite code, and anyone in the family can log feedings for the same babies β€” with a "who logged it" activity feed.

First Bites is for general education and tracking only and is not medical advice. Always consult your pediatrician about your baby β€” especially before introducing peanut if your infant has severe eczema and/or an egg allergy. Start solids around 6 months and not before 4 months. If you think your baby is having an allergic reaction, seek medical care right away; for trouble breathing, swelling of the face or tongue, or a floppy/pale baby, call your emergency number.
